Hotel-Restaurant Sonne St. Moritz

Particularly great attention is devoted to the subject of ecology in many different ways in Hotel Sonne. The heating, ventilation and sanitation systems were replaced as part of a partial demolition. Thanks to these conversions and renewals, the hotel has an environmentally-friendly infrastructure. 

The Hotel-Restaurant-Pizzeria Sonne is run by the third generation of sisters, Petra Franca Bonetti and Maja Gardiol-Bonetti. The house has 20 standard double rooms and 20 superior double rooms. Particularly great attention is devoted to the subject of ecology in Hotel Sonne. All electricity consumption is covered by Swiss hydropower.

The hotel rooms and the building services infrastructure were no longer up-to-date with the latest technology and were therefore not energy-efficient. During the course of the partial demolition of the main building, a new heating and ventilation system as well as sanitary facilities were installed. A particular challenge was the short construction period of just under three months, in which all new installations had to be realised.

The hotel now has a new heating system and is connected to the St. Moritz Bad energy network in order to cover its heating needs from renewable resources and, therefore, noticeably reduce CO2 emissions. The waste heat from the Eisarena Ludains ice rink and the heat from Lake St. Moritz serve as the energy source. In addition, energy from the pizza oven and the refrigerators is used for waste heat recovery.

All main lines were replaced and a new, energy-saving ventilation system was installed, so the hotel once again has reliable, environmentally friendly infrastructures.
